Finding a therapist in East London: what to look for

Looking for a therapist can feel daunting, especially when you are already struggling. There are lots of people now offering support in East London, and it is not always easy to know where to start.

First, check that your therapist is properly trained and belongs to a professional body such as the BACP or the UKCP. This means they follow an ethical framework, have regular supervision and keep up their training.

Next, think about practicalities. Is the location easy to get to from Walthamstow, Woodford Green, Buckhurst Hill or Loughton? Would online sessions suit you better on busy weeks?

Most importantly, research consistently shows that the relationship between you and your therapist matters more than any single method. It is worth having a short conversation first to see whether you feel comfortable and understood.

Questions you might ask include: how do you work, what experience do you have with what I am going through, and how often would we meet?

I see clients on Harley Street in Central London (W1), in South Woodford, East London (E18), and online. You are very welcome to book a free 15-minute phone consultation to see whether working together feels right.
